The diploma provides more practice involving a broader range of skill appropriate to a person who may be working independently.

The advanced diploma provides further development in specific beauty therapy skill, and development of skill appropiate to a person who may also be supervising others.

Progression routes

Nail technician course – 170hrs
Modified unit of IVQ Level 2 and unit of Level 3
This is a specially devised course for the nail industry using a modified unit of IVQ Level 2 manicure covering all aspects of improving the appearance of finger nails and hands, including simple massage techniques, and a Level 3 unit for nail enhancement using acrylic and fiberglass techniques. Theory on health and safety form part of the programme and assessment process. Practical training will be undertaken within the nail bar and training rooms, assessments can only be carried out on a client, as it must be a realistic commercial treatment. A high degree of skill is required to be proficient in applying nail extensions and there is considerable practice involved. A portfolio with evidence of competence assessment is a requirement as evidence for the awarding body. A kit will be required to undertake this course.

MANICURE/PEDICURE – 110HRS
Unit of IVQ Level 2
This is a comprehensive course covering all aspects of improving the appearance of nails and adjacent skin including simple massage techniques for the hands and feet, the painting of nails and conditioning treatments for both the skin and nails. Theory and health and safety are also covered as part of the programme and assessment process.

The full assessment process for IVQ applies and practical training will be undertaken within the nail bar and training rooms. Assessments can only be crried out on a client, as it must be a realistic commercial treatment. A portfolio of evidence of competent assessments is a requirement as evidence for the awarding body. A kit will be needed to undertake this course.

NAIL EXTENSIONS – 110HRS
Unit of IVQ Level 3
Entry requirement – a recognized manicure qualification
This highly popular skill is in great demand. The programme offers training in providing nail enhancements using acrylic and fiberglass. Theory on health and safety form part of the programme and assessment process. Practical training will be undertaken within the nail bar and training rooms, assessments can only be carried out on a client, as it must be a realistic commercial treatment. A high degree of skill is required to be proficient in applying nail extensions and there is a requirement as evidence for the awarding body. A kit will be required to undertake this course.

NAIL ART – ONE DAY
FCIBT COLLEGE CERTIFICATE
Nail art has become increasingly popular in the world with nail bars offering clients a range of intricate nail designs.
Training will cover techniques such as working with glitter pots, marbling and the application of stencils and transfers the course will also feature the decoration of the nails, and the instruction of sealing techniques. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of safe techniques in application and removal.
The course will teach you everything you need to know to ensure that you are confident in creating intricate and imaginative designs. A kit will be required to undertake this course.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE – 18HRS
FCIBT
This course is designed to be an introduction into the ancient and fascinating holistic art of Indian head massage. It will involve learning different pressure points and massage techniques to relieve stress and tension I the head and neck area.
The course consists of lectures and practical workshops and an element of home study. And FCIBT certificate of attendance will be awarded.

BODY MASSAGE – 140HRS
Unit of IVQ Level 3
This is a comprehensive course and students must be prepared to study hard for the Anatomy and Physiology content of the programme and to put in at least 3 to 5hrs extra study time at home each week. The content includes study of the digestive system, skeletal and muscular systems, circulation and lymphatic circulation systems, and the nervous and endocrine systems. Students are required to attend a weekly tutorial session, portfolio building sessions and many workshops, which are built into the programme.
The course includes Swedish massage techniques, which involve the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to promote relaxation and well being of the body.
Body massage techniques covered within the course include petrissage, effleurage and tapotement, which induce relaxation and aid the elimination of toxins.
There is no examination; qualification is achieved through continuous assessment of treatments of clients within the salons. Assessments can only be undertaken o a client, as it must be a realistic commercial treatment. Practical training will be undertaken within the practical training rooms and salons. A portfolio of evidence of competent assessments is a requirement for the awarding body.
